delivering high quality, cost effective education options
Policymakers understand the importance of delivering high quality, cost effective schooling options to families in their communities. All NCEP members manage charter schools, while some work with non-charter public schools. Charter schools represent NCEP’s commitment to public education. NCEP members are providing a vital product that benefits communities in many ways. Among them:
COST
NCEP member schools are extremely cost-effective in…… bringing quality education to communities.
…their alternative uses of public education resources.
…successfully educating children which results in significant savings over time due to less need for remediation.
…needing to set and maintain budgets because they are not able to tap into additional funds, like districts can.
ACCOUNTABILITY
NCEP member schools bring new levels of accountability to public education. They are accountable……to parents, who, if they are unhappy will withdraw their children.
…to local controlling bodies which can revoke their contracts and close schools.
…to the public at large and the elected officials who oversee public schools and the use of funds.
COMMUNITY ASSETS
The charter and non-charter public schools NCEP members manage enhance communities and community life. They……add to a community’s education capacity by bringing in new space and classrooms.
…are re-engaging communities that once had, but now are without, local public and parochial schools.
…are bringing equity to the educational landscape, bringing good schools to communities that historically have not had them.
OVERALL PERFORMANCE
NCEP member schools perform well in virtually all aspects of schooling. They deliver on performance – in all aspects of learning and teaching – and are in demand by parents and teachers. They align and incorporate the standards of the federal No- Child-Left-Behind legislation. Through competition, the overall performance of NCEP member schools helps raise standards of performance for other public schools. Link here for more on student achievement.
PUBLIC SUPPORT
NCEP member schools succeed because they enjoy strong public support.
NCEP member schools reach capacity with months of opening. There is strong public support for these schools in communities across the country.
Like all charter schools, virtually every NCEP member in operation maintains a waiting list.
The charter schools NCEP members manage enjoy bipartisan support and have been supported by the last three presidents . NCEP member schools are supported by the most important constituency in education: parents.
TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS
NCEP provides quality employment opportunities to thousands of teachers and administrators. Member schools provide unique benefits to these educational leaders, positively affecting student outcomes. They offer:…exceptional opportunities for achieving satisfaction and success as a respected, professional educator.
…career choices for teachers and administrators.
…non-union, nonbureaucratic professional settings.
…access to resources and materials.
…an environment in which professional educators are respected and valued.
…opportunities to have a direct impact on reforming education.
More About Charter Schools
All NCEP members manage charter schools, while some work with non-charter public schools. Charter schools represent NCEP’s commitment to public education. Charter schools focus on:
QUALITY
A commitment to educational quality, in all aspects of the educational experience, is a distinguishing characteristic of the schools NCEP members manage. These schools......deliver the quality education that parents demand, and children need.
...provide quality curricula, quality teachers, quality educational environments, and quality relationships between teachers and parents and children.
...meet the demands of communities and elected leaders for schools that effectively apply public funds to deliver quality education.
...provide teachers and administrators with quality career experiences and classroom environments.
...must deliver quality in order to be chosen by parents.
SAFETY
Charter schools place particular emphasis on school security and the physical and emotional safety of children. Charter schools......recognize that safety is a key demand of parents and one that must be met if a school is going to be selected by parents.
...can establish stricter rules of behavior that foster greater respect between students and between students and teachers.
...are better able to respond to issues of safety and security because of their size and because of the closer relationships that exist between parents and school administrators.
...can be more effectively managed to ensure children’s safety because of their smaller sizes.
STUDENT PERFORMANCE
Charter schools nurture individual student performance. In charter schools……teachers recognize that no two children are alike.
...curricula can be adapted to respond to circumstances.
...specific student needs can be more readily met.
...unique education and environments can be developed to foster individual growth and learning.
PARENT RELATIONSHIPS
Charter schools emphasize close, productive relationships between parents, teachers, and administrators. In charter schools……there is a strong emphasis on parental involvement in children’s learning.
…parents are afforded respect and given premiere access to teachers and administrators.
…supportive relationships between parents are encouraged.
